What Can Happen if Crowded Teeth are Left Untreated?
Crowded teeth can pose a list of problems if left untreated. Not only will it make it more difficult for new teeth to erupt in younger patients, but it can also increase the difficulty of being able to brush and floss effectively. As a result, this makes it more likely for you to develop:
- Tooth decay
- Gum disease
- A misaligned bite
If a patient avoids timely treatment, the plaque and tartar that builds around the teeth and gums can cause an infection and lead to worsening dental issues and an increased risk of overall health problems.
How Can Invisalign Help Treat Crowded Teeth?
By using Florham Park Invisalign treatment, you can expect to see a dramatic change in the appearance and health of your smile. Here’s how:
During your initial consultation with Dr. Carollo, he will examine your smile and determine if you are a qualified candidate for Invisalign. If so, impressions will be taken and sent to a dental laboratory where technicians will create your custom aligners, which will be worn throughout treatment. Once they are ready, you will return to our office to be fitted with your first set and receive instructions on how to wear them and for how long each day. The average time you should wear your aligners is 20-22 hours each day. This is to prevent a delay in your treatment plan.
After two weeks of wear, you will switch out your current set for the next set of aligners in the series. This will move you one step closer to a straighter, more improved smile. You’ll notice your teeth becoming aligned as the aligners work to create necessary space.
As you progress through your treatment plan, you will be expected to visit our office every 6 to 8 weeks for the next series of trays. Once you reach the end of your time with Invisalign, which can vary depending on each person’s individual case, you will be required to wear a retainer to keep your teeth from moving back into their original position.
