At the foundation of general dentistry is the dental checkup. In keeping with the recommendation of the American Dental Association, Dr. Carollo would like to see you and each member of your family twice yearly for a checkup. More than an opportunity to clean and polish your teeth, these regularly schedule appointments give us the chance to closely monitor your oral health for any early signs or symptoms of dental disease. For example, did you know that in terms of frequency, tooth decay is second only to the common cold? At a checkup, we visually examine your teeth for signs of decay and we’ll also take digital x-rays when necessary, so we can find hidden decay between teeth or just below the surface.
In addition, we also perform an oral cancer screening and gum health evaluation at each checkup. When caught early, oral cancer is often treatable and curable. Gum disease is a bacterial infection that can ultimately lead to tooth loss if not treated appropriately. During a periodontal screening, one of our gentle hygienists will probe the depths of your gum pockets. Pockets that are too deep can be an early sign of gingivitis, the early stage of gum disease.
The Pediatric Dentist East Hanover Parents Trust
For the youngsters in your family, Dr. Carollo provides gentle care in a really fun environment. We have books, televisions and video games for them to enjoy before their appointment. Once in the dentist chair, we focus on helping your children maintain a healthy and happy smile for a lifetime. In addition to the same thorough cleaning and examination we give moms and dads, we often recommend dental sealants and fluoride treatments for the kids. Sealants go on as plastic liquid that harden to create a tough barrier between molars and the bacteria that cause decay. Topical fluoride treatments strengthen enamel, the hard outer surface of teeth that protects the interior of each tooth and fights decay, too.
If any of your children—or you, too—participate in sports, then speak to Dr. Carollo about a mouthguard to protect teeth, lips, gums and tongue during play and practice.
Dr. Carollo and his staff are pleased to offer every general dentistry service you to take care of your family’s oral health. We look forward to seeing you at the office!
