If you’ve ever contemplated getting braces to straighten your teeth, then you should know that it’s never too late and you’re never too old to straighten your teeth. So, even if you’re an adult who is busy with a career and family, you can still enjoy the cosmetic and oral health benefits of having a smile without crowded or misaligned teeth. While metal braces are always an option, a better choice for you might be Invisalign® clear plastic aligners. With Invisalign, Dr. John A. Carollo in Florham Park, NJ, creates beautiful smiles almost, well, invisibly.
Your first step toward a smile with straighter teeth is a consultation with Dr. Carollo. Here, you and the dentist will discuss what you want to achieve with orthodontia. Dr. Carollo will also thoroughly examine and assess the health of your teeth and gums, checking for any signs of decay or gum disease that needs addressing before you begin orthodontic treatment.
The Invisalign Process
Then, we will take x-rays, photographs and impressions that are sent to Invisalign where they create a 3D image of your teeth. This imaging allows Dr. Carollo to build a treatment plan that shows how your teeth will move over the course of treatment and how they will look when treatment is completed.
Also from Dr. Carollo’s treatment plan, Invisalign fabricates the clear plastic aligners that you’ll wear to straighten your teeth. The aligners are removable, so you’ll be able to brush and floss your teeth as usual.
Your aligners are arranged in a series of sets for your upper and lower teeth. You’ll wear each set every day for approximately two weeks, and then you’ll move on to the next set. As you progress through each series, you’ll actually see your teeth gradually move into position. Others might not even notice because the Invisalign aligners are made of clear, smooth plastic. In most cases, Dr. Carollo’s have a straight smile in about one year.
